We had a wonderful time at the Welsh Bafta. It was a perfect night, the glam, the glitz and the jazz…all according to the script: Handsome gentlemen in crisp suits, beautiful women with big hair, photographers trying to get that one perfect shot…

To say that I loved it would be an understatement. You don’t go to the Bafta if you don’t worship Television and the Film industry, if you are not one of those kids with an extremely useful (yeh, right) degree in film studies and media (ermm, like myself) and if you don’t have a Netflix addiction.

Yes, we loved attending Bafta Cymru: from drinking far too much champagne to indulging in the beautiful VIP buffet and cheering for our favourite artists, we had a very special experience and particularly enjoyed the following three things:

  1. Menna Richards being awarded with OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO TELEVISION AWARD and, boy, no one was more deserving.

HJ_BAFTA_CYMRU_WINNERS_28

Her leadership has brought some of UK’s most successful drama productions including Doctor Who, Torchwood, the Sarah Jane Adventures, Sherlock and Upstairs Downstairs to global TV screens. She has made Wales an attractive and successful centre for global TV projects and honestly, we couldn’t be more grateful.

2. Clare Sturges quoting Viola Davis

Clare Sturges reminded us that we are far from having a strong women presence in the industry quoting American actress Viola Davis, who recently gave a powerful acceptance speech at the Emmys) to make sure we work on creating more opportunities for women.

Claire won a Bafta for (BREAKTHROUGH AWARD) Sexwork, Love and Mr Right.

3. Amy Wadge(here with actress Georgia Henshaw) singing Thinking out Loud…

Yes, she’s the Amy behind Ed Sheeran’s “Songs I wrote with Amy” and Thinking out Loud of course. Her faultless performance left us wondering why we don’t get to see her more on stage.
