Working from home and keeping up with a blog is probably most difficult during the summer months: all you can think about is jetting off on holiday, finding inspiration in the city’s heat is challenging and, let’s face it, you’re probably exhausted from the year’s work.

That’s why, here at Squiggles HQ, we’ve been playing around with our work space and desk situation not only to bring back the spark in our daily work but also to feel inspired and ready to deliver new, exciting content. Here’s our take on the ideas we’ve researched as well as some desk side beauty and essential blogging tips and tricks.

Our current desk space situation looks a little bit like this:

It’s most certainly not perfect yet but with the abundance of natural light,  it’s refreshing and exactly what we need when taking pictures or brainstorming new content ideas.

The desk itself is from ikea and, although you can’t see it in the picture, it has side storage which is ideal to keep office clutter such as pens, files and notebooks out of the way. It’s also ridiculously cheap and small enough to fit even the most compromised work spaces.

No work space is complete without some desk inspiration and our current favourites include the witty How To Be Parisian, the motivational It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want to Be and the heart warming, Small Pleasures To Save Your Life. Similarly, if you’re looking for some blog post inspiration, magazines are also ideal with glossies such as Porter or Red being firm favourites for their extensive and inspiring content.

The stifling city heat means our desk side beauty has to work extra hard: we love the Neal’s Yard White Tea Facial Mist to keep hydrated and if you’re feeling particularly indulgent, you can pop on the Enriching Facial Mask which will work intensively for your skin as you type away (maybe that’s one to keep for when you’re on your own though!).

Similarly, candles are great to refreshen the work space with scents such as mint and jasmine being great for the summer months whereas our cute motivational postcards (all from Paperchase) are ideal to keep things positive and in perspective.

Finally, the tiny drawer on the far right is great to keep beauty samples and items we might need to review or write about as in this way, all the products are in one place making the writing process easier.  We used a tiny cardboard drawer but any small box would work well even those you might receive monthly if you’re subscribed to GlossyBox or Birchbox.

So here’s our take on an inspiring work place to last us through the summer months before we jet off for some well deserved relaxation – how do you stay motivated when working from home?  Let us know!
