Is there anything better than popcorn? Nothing beats the feeling you get when after a long day, you turn your favourite TV series on with a glass of wine and you have a quiet night in. It’s just a first taste of chilly nights, the cosiness of the Autumn season making its entrance and a pure and simple, child-like joy.

For the sake of this argument, we are prepared to accept that not everyone has the same taste buds and that some people don’t even like popcorn but if you don’t, are you sure you have been trying the right ones?

You should read our chat with the wonderful Sam from Popcorn Shed, a businesswoman who clearly understood our popcorn passion and did something about it.

When does the popcorn passion come from?

Sam and I discovered gourmet popcorn during a trip to the US, and on returning to the UK we realised that great tasting and high-quality popcorn was not easy to source and spotted a gap in the mainstream market. We had always flirted with the idea of running our own family food business together, and in a moment of madness around our 30th birthdays, we had a “now or never” moment.

What makes you different?

Popcorn Shed has disrupted the UK snacking market by becoming the first super-premium gourmet popcorn brand in the sector.  We pride ourselves on our unique and colourful packaging, and are the first UK company in the sector to re-envisage the packaging of gourmet popcorn by packing popcorn into a carton (see our signature gifting sheds).  This innovative packaging design was designed with the environment at it’s heart: our cartons are fully recyclable and sourced from trees from sustainable forests.

Popcorn Shed are also leading the way in the sector by introducing mini popcorn to Europe with Mini Pop! which launched 1st July. Not only is it Healthy, Vegan, Gluten Free, Low Calorie, Wholegrain and doesn’t get stuck in your teeth, but it tastes great too! Available in 5 innovative and popular flavours such as White Truffle, Vegan Toffee and Salt & Vinegar

This new range to a new demographic of health-conscious consumers.

Please describe to us what it is like to work with your cousin?

I’d say really great most of the time. We have a lot of fun. I’m very lucky to have such a smart, analytical business partner in Sam. We’re very close, more like brother and sister. We do have our moments though! I think running your own business has enough stresses so having a business partner who you can fully trust and rely on is a must. We have complimentary skills but the same work ethic so it works very well.

How would you describe your working environment? Surely looks like lots of fun and with a good vibe from your Instagram account.

Popcorn Shed was founded in the garden shed… and we now work out of  a shared working space in north London.  I would probably describe our work environment as fast pace, hard working with a lot of laughs and snacks.
