The plot:

The plot is nothing we haven’t seen before. Despite being skillfully crafted by Puccini back in 1904, the story is extremely relatable. A young (too young) woman falls in love with a man, marries him and gets the ultimate betrayal when said man goes back to his native country (the US) leaving her pregnant, poor and isolated from her community.

The unpack:

We have no words to describe how interesting was to see the WNO’s reinterpretation of Madam Butterfly. From the setting to the costumes and visual effects, nothing was left to chance. Characters were vibrant, real and more human than ever.

Personal:

It went incredibly quick, a sign of a great show. We are not opera experts but we were so enthralled that two hours flew by and shook us to the very core.
